Promoting peace in our homes and communities since 2010, Peace December held a Tuesday, December 1 awards ceremony commemorating the life and vision of civil rights activists Claudette Colvin and the late Rosa Parks. Featured guest speaker, District Attorney Darcel Clark honored Colvin, an African-American Civil Rights Movement pioneer who was arrested for resisting bus segregation in Montgomery, Alabama nine months prior to Park’s similar protest. In addition, Assemblyman Jose Rivera presented awards to residents who volunteer their services to their community.Pictured above, Assemblyman Rivera (2nd on left) stands with Peace December members and honorees following last Tuesday’s awards ceremony.Photo by Miriam Quin
