New SSBx Leadership promises continued growth

New SSBx Leadership promises continued growth

For the past seven years Sustainable South Bronx has made green waves of change by providing environmental justice solutions throughout the borough and beyond.

On Monday, July 21, the Bronx-based non-profit announced a change in power that will ensure the corporation’s promising future.

Miquela Craytor, who previously worked in Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr.’s, economic development office and most recently served as the SSBx deputy director, assumed the executive director position and will manage the organization’s daily operations while also guiding new initiative efforts.

“I’m honored to fill this role at SSBx and help lead the organization in its next chapter,” Craytor said. “And I am looking forward to building and expanding upon our successes.”

Prior to her employment on the political landscape, Craytor worked for more than four years in corporate, legal and financial intuitions, all of which helped her gain the experience needed to maintain and successfully execute SSBx’s vision.

“I know our staff will continue to be a force for innovation in the South Bronx and serve as a model for communities across the globe,” Craytor commented.

While filling the shoes of her nationally recognized and highly respected predecessor, Majora Carter, could appear a daunting task, Craytor said she’s excited to continue the leader’s progression for years to come.

“I’m grateful for the outstanding contribution Majora has made to SSBx, and I look forward to her guidance and counsel as we continue to build on the great foundation she has built for us,” she said.

Though Carter will continue to offer support to SSBx, her new involvement in a new range of opportunities includes her own consulting business to advice municipalities, businesses, communities, foundations and universities on how to unlock their green-collar economic potential.

Carter also recently embarked on the National Geographic Arctic Expedition for Climate Action with Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, Madeline Albright and Tom Daschle, among others.

While her new ventures will allow her to continue inspiring change around the globe, Carter said she knows organization will remain in good hands.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the stellar team that our work has attracted,” she said.

In addition to the change in leadership, SSBx also added deputy director Sergio Sandoval, who most recently worked as the director of administration at Legal Services NYC, and the Urban Justice Center and development director Laura Johnson, who was the director of development and research for Edwin Gould Academy.
