The Bronx Central Council for Economic Development announces that the month of May was successful and filled with productive activity.
They held a three week Consumer Training Series presented by Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera in conjunction with Beth Abraham Family of Health Services and BCCED that aimed to inform the community on essential economic topics. The Financial Literacy Workshops were initiated last summer and are now part of a series of workshops that are hosted on a frequent basis. The series aspires to educate merchants and their consumers about managing monetary goods and instills an awareness of unethical economical behavior that unfortunately exists in today’s society.
During the month of May, financial services representatives from MetLife and the State of New York Consumer Protection Board came to the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services community auditorium to instruct sixty minute sessions on three essential topics including: Income Protection, Identity Theft, and Credit and Debt Management .
The workshops are part of the Shop With Us Campaign and so the venue for the events was ideal since it was located on Allerton Avenue, one of the Bronx neighborhoods that the Small Business Assistance Initiative Program has been trying to target. Since Beth Abraham Family of Health Service is a medical facility it was quite practical for union and non-union workers, as well as other employees of the community to come to the session on their free time.
Many of the participants raved about the practicality of the information disseminated and so BCCED will continue to make a concerted effort to provide these free sessions as often as possible on pertinent topics.
