Chris Pinto, director of Sports at the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center, announces that the little league is now in its final stage of registration for the spring baseball season.
The center’s children’s baseball league offers six age appropriate divisions.The Pee-Wee division serves 5 and 6 year old boys and girls and uses a batting T and a very soft baseball. Pee-Wees will learn to play, follow the rules, and enjoy the games.
Bantams are 7 and 8 year old boys and girls and also use a soft baseball, however the coaches pitch.Participants learn team work and rules are also taught.
In Majors, players are 9 and 10 year olds, Majors are 11 to 12 year olds and Seniors are 13, 14, and 15 years old. The players pitch, a hollow core softballs are used; team work, sportsmanship and skills are followed.
There is also a separate girl’s softball division for 9 to 15 year olds, for girls who prefer not to play with the boys.
Mosholu Montefiore Little League uses the fields at Shandler Park, off Jerome Avenue and the completed fields at Harris Park.
Each player receives a full uniform consisting of shirt, pants, and cap.All players receive a team trophy for participating. The fee is only $100 plus $20 for accident insurance.
To register, bring a copy of your birth certificate to the community center on Gun Hill Road and Dekalb Avenue, one block East of Jerome Avenue, plus payment. The hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m
