Flanigan, who is the school’s sixth president, began his tenure on July 1. He was formally installed during the mass, which was presided over by Fr. Richard LaMorte, a Mount St. Michael Academy alum from the class of 1954.

Provincial of the Marist Brothers’ U.S. Province Bro. Dan O’Riordan led the installation ceremony.

Flanigan brings with him experience as a teacher and campus administrator at other Marist schools, including Our Lady of Lourdes in Poughkeepsie, St. Agnes High School in New York City and Mount St. Michael. Additionally, he served as Head of School at Bishop Donahue High School in West Virginia, a teacher at Cardinal Hayes High School and as a staff member at Abraham House, a residential program that served as an alternative to incarceration for South Bronx youths. He also spent the last 15 years working as part of Marist College’s Campus Ministry team.

“Bro. Michael’s administrative experiences, organizational skills and fundraising abilities, coupled with his passion for the mission which is Mount St. Michael will enable us to thrive well into the future,” Principal Br. Steve Schlitte said.

The mass, which marked the opening of the school year, also acknowledged the 98th year of the school’s existence since it was founded in 1926. The school provides a Catholic, college preparatory education to young men from grades 6-12.
