Legal Hand Bronx and Violence Intervention Program hold digital abuse workshop

Legal Hand Bronx partnered with the Violence Intervention Program to host a violence intervention workshop on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Violence Intervention Program Community Educator Maria Fernanda Buitrago was the speaker at this event. She covered a large variety of topics, including “Red Flags” and “Sextortion.”
During the Red Flags portion of the event, attendees were given red and yellow cards to lift after each statement was read out. Those who raised yellow flags would explain why they did not consider the statement dangerous and those with a red flag discussed why they thought it was dangerous.

Sextortion is defined as the practice of extorting money or sexual favors from someone by threatening to reveal evidence of their sexual activity. Buitrago said many teen suicides have resulted from sextortion cases.
