The second annual “Ice Cream with a Cop” event was celebrated by the 45th Precinct Community Council, the 45th Precinct Community Affairs Bureau, the New York City Parks Department and Lickety Split Ice Cream Shoppe on Tuesday, July 30, at Hawkins Park in City Island.
In addition to free ice cream, the event also featured a variety of fun games and activities for kids.

This event provides Bronx residents of all ages with the opportunity to meet members of the NYPD in a friendly environment, where they can answer questions that residents may have. More than 270 Bronx residents attended Ice Cream with a Cop. Several community leaders also turned up for the event, including Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, New York City Council Majority Leader Amanda Farías and representatives from the offices of New York State Assemblymember Michael Benedetto and Council Member Kristy Marmorato.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Bob Bieder, the president of the 45th Precinct Community Council. “Our Council hosts functions in each of the six communities within our precinct. Whether it’s ‘Pizza with a Cop’, ‘Coffee with a Cop’, our Annual Breakfast or Fall Festival, the goal is always the same – how do we bridge the gap between community and police and provide a fun, informal, process so folks can get to know our officers and our officers can get to know them, as well as the issues within our neighborhoods.”

Bieder expressed special appreciation for Detective Hannah Rivera, Officers Edward Reyes and Xavier Marcus, Parks Borough Commissioner Jessenia Aponte and Lickety Split owners Skip and Louise Giacco for taking part in the event. The Giaccos also made a sizable donation to the event.
