Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts recognized World Hunger Day on Wednesday, May 28, by reaffirming its commitment to address food insecurity across the Bronx and Westchester through community engagement, volunteer work and grants.
Through its Social Impact and Sustainability (SIS) Council Volunteer Committee, Empire City organizes impactful volunteer initiatives aimed at empowering and addressing the needs of local communities. Under the leadership of SIS Volunteer Committee Chair Lauren Douglas—who also serves as MGM Resorts Northeast Group Director of Guest Experience—the organization has remained committed to making a meaningful difference where it matters most.
So far in 2025, Empire City employees in the SIS Volunteer Committee have taken part in multiple volunteer opportunities with Feeding Westchester, which works to deliver nutritious food to communities across Westchester County. This includes packing 625 bags of produce for seniors in need and taking part in Feeding Westchester’s Golden Scoops Corporate Packing Competition, in which participants competed to pack the most food for local families in need as quickly as possible.
Empire City has also helped the Matthew Wallace Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to engaging and inspiring community leaders by promoting humanitarian values and offering underserved communities with goods and services. Empire City employees recently helped the Matthew Wallace Foundation distribute food at a pop-up food pantry. Additionally, Empire City donated personal hygiene products to the non-profit.
Empire City’s dedication to serving the community is not limited to volunteer work. It has also given out grants and sponsorships to multiple organizations in an effort to help them expand access to fresh and nutritious food. Inflation and affordability have exacerbated food insecurity in food deserts like the Bronx and Westchester, making this effort all the more important. Among the non-profit organizations that have received funding from Empire City are the Food Bank for New York City, the YMCA of Yonkers, the Yonkers Community Action Program, the Youth Shelter Program of Westchester and Catholic Charities.
Partnerships with organizations like this reflect a broader commitment by MGM Resorts towards social impact and corporate social responsibility in communities where its employees and guests live and work.
