The 30th Annual Tour de Bronx bike ride is taking place on Sunday, Oct. 6.

The event has evolved since its inception, and riders now have three courses to choose from – a 10-mile course, a 25-mile course and a 40-mile course. Additionally, each course has rest stops available throughout the day.

Participants are also given the option of renting a bike, which they can do by logging on to ilovethebronx.com and clicking “Tour de Bronx” under the “events” tab on the site.

Given that the ride is the largest free cycling event in New York state, and it was originally intended to be a way to get to know the Bronx, it comes with many views for riders to enjoy as they pedal along.

One is Fordham Road, which has often been called the pinnacle of the Bronx borough. As you ride down Fordham Road, you will see many of the anchor institutions of the Bronx, including Fordham University, the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage and more. These locations represent the academic, architectural and artistic shaping of The Bronx.

While riding in the 25 mile course, you will have the chance to see restaurants like Havana Cafe, Mamajuana and Made in Puerto Rico. These restaurants are all located in the neighborhood of Tremont. As you pass, make a mental note to return to the area to grab a bite to eat. The food they serve is a reflection of the Hispanic heritage that has shaped the Bronx.

Finally, on the 40 mile course, one of the main spots is Van Cortlandt Park, which is one of the largest parks in New York City. Van Cortlandt Park has been called the “Mecca” of the running world, as it is the host site of the Manhattan College Cross Country Invitational. Right across the street is Lloyd’s Carrot Cake, where you may want to stop by for a fibrous dessert the next time you run or bike in Van Cortlandt.

These are just a few of the great spots you’ll see during the ride — you’ll have to participate to see more. Go to ilovethebronx.com to register and follow @bronx.tourism on Instagram to stay updated on the event!
