Friday, March 15

Creative Crochet Shapes with Ruth Marshall

From 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; free

Seniors ages 50+ are invited to Mott Haven library’s crochet workshop for beginners and intermediates. Attendees will learn from Bronx artist Ruth Marshall how to stitch shapes without using a pattern, which may eventually turn into more advanced designs: hats, slippers or bags.

All materials will be provided by the library. This Friday is the first in its series of eight Friday workshops, where each week will build on the week before. Attendance to all eight weeks is encouraged for long-term skill-building.

Saturday, March 16

Junior Keepers: Bison at the Bronx Zoo

From 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.; $60

Children ages 8-12 can join the Bronx Zoo this Saturday for an up-close encounter with the U.S.’s national mammal, the bison. This program will discuss how zookeepers care for these animals and includes skill-building activities for the kids to participate in. Saturdays on the Sound

Starts at 10 a.m.; free

Join this group as they participate in Saturdays on the Sound, revitalizing Soundview Park by removing invasive plant species and working to make this Bronx green space beautiful. Soundview Park, sometimes called the “Gateway to the Bronx River,” offers a plethora of natural views as well as exercise activities for Bronx residents.

Free Easter Kid’s Event at Bay Plaza

From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; free

Head over to the Mall at Bay Plaza for an early Easter celebration on level three in the food court. Kids can grab bunny ears to get in the spirit and enter to win prizes in DJ Omar’s dance party contest.

The magician Magical Monty will be holding interactive magic shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the Easter Bunny is scheduled to pay a visit during the 11 a.m. show. This event is free and located at the mall at 200 Baychester Ave.

Sunday, March 17

Family Art Project: Desert Dwellers

From 10 to 11 a.m.; $4-10

Children and families will learn how cacti thrive in harsh climates as they learn to paint prints of these hardy plants. The event will take place at Wave Hill at 4900 Independence Ave, and was inspired by Wave Hill’s Cactus and Succulent House.

Following the family art project, attendees are invited to stay for storytime programming in the Gund Theater. For more information, see the event posting here.
