According to the Muslim Aid organization, the history of Ramadan goes all the way back to 610 A.D. — when an Arabian man named Muhammad was visited by an angel who spoke the first words of what would later be known as the holy book of the Qur’an. During the month of Ramadan, participating Muslims observe the holy time by fasting from sunrise to sunset every day, and instead use that free time to recite scripture from the Qur’an in order to strengthen their bond with Allah. Photo Tequila Minsky
