A Bronx woman has been indicted on attempted murder and other charges for her alleged role in the shooting of two young boys at a McDonald’s in the Allerton section last summer, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced last week.
Diamond Smith, 18, of East 221st Street, is accused of aiding in a targeted shooting that left a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old wounded inside the fast food restaurant on White Plains Road near Mace Avenue on July 6, 2024.
According to the investigation, Smith spotted the boys inside the McDonald’s around 10 p.m. and allegedly believed they were affiliated with a rival crew. She reportedly alerted 21-year-old Dreshawn Lucas, who then drove Waynol Recio, 19, to the scene. Recio allegedly opened fire inside the restaurant, striking the younger victim in the leg, back and buttocks, and hitting the 13-year-old in the leg.
“This act of senseless violence could have had deadly consequences,” said District Attorney Clark. “The defendant’s actions allegedly led to children being shot in a crowded restaurant, putting innocent workers and customers in danger.”
Smith was indicted on two counts of attempted murder, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, four counts of attempted assault in the first degree, among other charges. She was arraigned before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Kim Parker, who set bail at $75,000 cash, $500,000 bond or $500,000 partially secured at 10% with an examination of surety. Smith is due back in court on June 27.
Lucas and Recio were previously indicted on identical charges, including second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
The shooting is believed to be connected to tensions with the “1300” crew, according to officials, with the victims allegedly targeted for showing disrespect.
Both boys survived the attack and have since recovered.
The case remains under investigation.
