The inaugural Bronx Tech Job Fair was held on Oct. 3 at Fordham University, offering local talent a direct path to opportunities in the tech sector. The fair, open to high school students, college attendees, and working professionals, ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and drew more than 50 attendees when the doors opened.

The event hosted an array of companies and organizations, including Health First, The Knowledge House, New York Power Authority, Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition (NWBCC), Northwestern Mutual, U.S. Small Business Administration, Radical Health, Con Edison, Nova Echo, and Clearscope. The organizations showcased opportunities spanning technology, finance, business, and professional development, with resume reviews and networking sessions also on offer.

The event was organized by the Bronx Tech Hub, a non-profit organization focused on advancing technology and building a strong tech community in the borough.

The fair, which aimed to bridge the gap between job seekers and potential employers, was designed to spotlight the skills and talents of local residents, build connections and strengthen the borough’s emerging tech ecosystem. The event also helped attendees with networking.

“Today is not just a job fair; it’s a celebration of what we can achieve together,” said George Nunez, founder and CEO of Bronx Tech Hub, during his opening remarks. “The Bronx has historically been underrepresented in the tech sector; however, we are here to change the narrative. Our mission at the Bronx Tech Hub is to create a vibrant tech ecosystem that empowers individuals from all backgrounds.”

Nunez emphasized the importance of community building.

“This fair is not just about finding a job or opportunity; it’s about feeling connections and fostering a community,” he said. “You are all here because you have the potential to contribute to the tech landscape of our world, and today is your opportunity to showcase your skills and passion. Let’s embrace this opportunity to elevate our community and pave the way for the next generations of leaders.”

Among the attendees was Stephina Fisher, 39, a teacher at the Bronx Academy for Software Engineering. “We’re always trying to connect young people to community organizations and potential career and college pathways,” Fisher said. She brought 15 high school students to the fair, eager to expose them to the range of opportunities available.

“I was very excited to hear about the resume coaching,” Fisher added. “The link-up with external people from the school goes a long way in getting students engaged in the resume-building process. It makes it more real. This is also a great way for our students to get on the Fordham campus and get the vibe of it.”

Fisher noted the broader significance of the event: “When we heard that this was going to take place, we knew that it was kind of the beginning of something big, and so we’re excited to see how the Bronx is becoming a tech hub and how the Bronx Tech Hub is spearheading some of that momentum.”
