A Bronx man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for first-degree manslaughter after fatally shooting another man in a 2022 incident, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Tuesday.
Diquinn Lacend, 31, of 328 East 145th St., was sentenced on Sept. 5 by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Ralph Fabrizio. Along with his 20-year prison sentence, Lacend will serve five years of post-release supervision. He pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on July 25, 2024.
According to prosecutors, Lacend shot 31-year-old James Thrower six times during a physical altercation near East 162nd Street and Teller Avenue on July 15, 2022. The shooting occurred around 11:53 p.m. and left Thrower dead at the scene.
Clark emphasized the importance of holding individuals accountable for gun violence in the borough. “The defendant shot the victim six times. We must hold shooters accountable and continue our efforts to remove guns from our streets,” she said.
This case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and community leaders to reduce gun violence.
