A Bronx man has been indicted for second-degree murder and other charges after allegedly stabbing a man to death he blamed for a fire that destroyed his apartment, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced.

Kayjon Yizar, 28, of East Tremont Avenue, is accused of killing 36-year-old Arkmayer Davis in a brutal attack outside a Red Cross shelter in the Mount Hope section on Christmas Eve. Yizar was arraigned before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Cynthia Isales on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and remains in custody. He is scheduled to return to court on April 15.

“The defendant, in a fit of rage, carried out this senseless act of brutality in broad daylight,” District Attorney Clark said. “He allegedly blamed the victim for setting a fire that led to the loss of his home. Such vengeance cannot and will not be tolerated in the Bronx.”

According to the investigation, Yizar approached Davis at around 11 a.m. on Dec. 24, 2024, in front of 101 East Tremont Avenue, a Red Cross shelter providing temporary housing for those displaced by fires. Yizar allegedly stabbed Davis multiple times in the head and body. Surveillance footage captured the attack, during which Davis managed to flee into the shelter before collapsing. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities said Yizar blamed Davis for a Dec. 2, 2024, fire at their former residence at 1331 Findlay Ave. The blaze temporarily displaced residents and caused significant damage to Yizar’s apartment, rendering it uninhabitable. However, Davis was never charged in connection with the fire.

Yizar faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arrested on Dec. 25, 2024, a day after the fatal stabbing.

District Attorney Clark said she has not tolerance for those seeking vigilante justice. “We must ensure accountability and justice through the legal system, not through violence.”
