Notable Passings

Catherine Devany Gilligan, 79, of Ridgewood, NJ passed away on Tuesday, June 14.

She was born in the Bronx and had been married to Martin Gilligan, who passed away in 2006. She was a mother and a grandmother.

Kay (as she was known) had many fond memories of growing up in Throggs Neck in the Bronx. After graduating from her beloved Preston High School in 1954, she attended St. John’s University in Brooklyn. Kay and Marty married in 1963 and later moved from Throggs Neck to Ridgewood where they raised their family.

Her many and enduring friendships attested to her loyalty and good humor. Her ready smile, laughter and willingness to help when needed will be missed.

Alexander Pernoca, another former Bronxite, died peacefully on Sunday, June 12 at the age of 87.

He was an emigrant from Italy and arrived in America with his wife Anna Pernoca in 1961.

He is survived by his children Rita Lacey, Maria Nuzzo, Dominick Pernoca, Fran Laurens, Anthony Pernoca and Jennifer Pernoca.

He was employed as a machinist at GAL Industries for over 30 years.
