Notable Passing

Stephen Huston, director of recreation for the Parkchester South Condominiums for decades, passed away recently, according to his daughter Chanel Huston.

My father held his position for over 25 years, fiercely dedicating his life to helping underprivileged children reach their potential through the implementation of many outreach programs in our neighborhood.

During his career, he help to mentor generations of Bronx children onto the right path of adulthood.

His many awards and recognition are evidence of his efforts: New York City Hall of Fame, as well as awards from the U.S. Congress, the mayor, and the NYS Legislature, among many others.

Borough Native Serves Aboard Uss Gunston Hall

Petty Officer Third Class A.J. Alvarez, a 2012 graduate of P.S. 89 in Pelham Gardens, is an engineman serving aboard the USS Gunston Hall in the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Navy reports.

The ship is based out of Norfolk, Virginia.

A Navy engineman is responsible for maintaining and repairing the ship’s diesel engines.

The sailor said:

I enjoy how mechanically inclined this job has made me.
