Serving His Country

Jake Constanz, who comes from the borough, is serving his country in the U.S. Navy as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).

He serves in the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group serving in the Indo-Pacific region to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency, according to the U.S. Navy.

The photo on this page shows him throwing a safety line from a combat rubber raiding craft to the well deck of amphibious landing ship U.S.S. Ashland.

Notable Passing

The Throggs Neck Benevolent Association wishes to inform the public of the passing of John O’Grady, a nearly life-long borough resident who passed away at the age of 81 on Saturday, January 26.

He was a New York City Police Officer in Manhattan’s 20th Precinct for 20 years beginning in 1957.

He and his wife Noreen raised three children in the borough.

After his retirement, he was a bartender for many years at local establishments in Castle Hill and Throggs Neck, where he was known for his quick wit and ability to tell a good tale.
