All Hallows high school has been evaluated and once again exceeded average standards and has been named one of the top 50 Catholic High Schools in the country.
The Catholic High School Honor Role evaluated three areas of the participating schools, including academic excellence, civic education, and Catholic identity.
All Hallows showed their academic excellence through its 99 to 100% graduation rate, with 108 of 109 students in the Class of 2008 attending college, with one student moving straight into a career. In addition, the high school has a 98% passing rate in the New York State Regent’s Exams.
“We have a very high college acceptance rate that’s practically unheard of,” said All Hallow president Paul Krebbs. “To get 99 to 100% to college is extraordinary.”
The school is proud of their advance placement program that offers courses in english, science, history, and even microeconomics. All Hallows is considered a Gilder Lehrman school for this dedication to history. In addition to regular history courses, freshman have specific historic reading and writing assignments,
sophomores develop a website for a chosen historic figure, juniors are offered advanced placement American history, and seniors work in groups to create their own American history DVD project.
Displaying its Catholic identity, the school holds regular liturgies, prayer services, and retreats. Each year every student must attend a retreat, which may also contribute to the civic education and 110 hours of community service required of each student by graduation.
All Hallows has been honored as one of the top 50 schools in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008, and 2006 was acknowledged in the area of civic education.
Receiving this accomplishment is significant to the school this year as All Hallows celebrates its 100th anniversary since it’s founding in 1909, when it began with only 25 students.
“We are just thrilled to receive this recognition especially during on 100th anniversary,” said the five-year president. “100 years is special and this just adds to it and all the kids are happy about it too.”
All Hallows is one of two schools to receive this honor in New York City and one of three in New York State.
“Our kids are great, we have very very nice spirit in this school,” said Krebbs. “We are just about at capacity and all our students are respectful and really wonderful.”
