The New York Yankees honored 13 Lehman College students and alumni who took part in the Yankees-CUNY Sport Management Mentoring Program prior to the game on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
A special certificate ceremony was held for the participants of this five-week virtual program, which consisted of informative sessions with members of the Yankees’ front office.
The cohort received their tickets on the field, where they were joined by Lehman College President Fernando Delgado, School of Continuing and Professional Studies Small Business Internship Program Manager Andrea Huda, Academic Affairs and Student Success Provost and Senior Vice President Jorge Silva Puras and School of Continuing and Professional Studies Dean Jane Mackillop.
After receiving their certificates, the group got to watch the Yankee game from the Judge’s Chambers in the right field seats, a specially designated area of the ballpark named for Yankees’ all-star Aaron Judge.
The students in the program came away having gained a lot of insight in the field of sports management.
“One thing Kenny [Leandry, New York Yankees Director of Corporate and Community Relations] said that stood out to me was never try to be the next one to do it. Be the first to do it your way. I realized it’s not what you study, it’s what you bring to the table,” said Glorimar Camacho, a psychology major at Lehman College.

“All the speakers we got the opportunity to hear from were very personable. it made me relate to them as people, not just professionals. It is definitely an experience I can grow from,” said Malique Russell, a rising junior majoring in Accounting.
This ceremony after the Yankees announceed the “Armando Talavera Summer Internship,” honoring the former Spanish-language broadcaster who died in May 2024. Through this internship, a Lehman College student aspiring for a career in sports media, broadcasting or journalism will have the opportunity to intern with the Yankees in the summer of 2025.
The Yankees-CUNY Partnership Program, launched in 2021, has exposed CUNY students and alumni to career paths, employment and business opportunities within the Yankees organization.
