38th Annual Halloween Parade at Westchester Avenue & Southern Boulevard

Oct. 28, 12 p.m.

Rejoice, the most terrifying time of year is upon us and the four-decades strong Bronx Halloween Parade is back. Themed after ’80s horror films, people are strongly encouraged to suit up in their best. The parade starts at Southern Boulevard and Westchester Avenue, heads through Southern Boulevard and Intervale Avenue and concludes at Dawson Street. Even after the parade there is still much fun to be had! Head to Bill Rainey Park to enjoy an artistic showcase from surprise celebrity guests, elected officials, marching bands and compete in costume contests with actual cash prizes.

Spooky Garden Nights

Oct. 21-28, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Dress up in your most harrowing costume and don’t miss the several events taking over the garden nights. Adam Bierton, a professional sculptor, will be demonstrating his prowess and creativity on giant pumpkins. Brought to you by local puppeteer, Lucrecia Novoa, experience the otherworldliness of seeing a parade of life-sized, life-like skeletons. Another live performance will be held by Hit the Lights! Theater: A Live Shadow Puppet Performance, with special attention in maintaining the vintage aesthetic, using classic overhead projectors, shadow puppetry and on-the-spot music to set the mood.

Tickets are $30 for non-members and $25 for members.

Sharing Creativity

Family Art Night at the Williamsbridge Oval Recreation Center

Nov. 16, 6-7:30 p.m.

With fall upon us, the Family Art Night event is one of many occasions spreading the festive spirit. All families are invited to savor music while they draw and paint. Express your creative side and see the artistry you never knew your family had.

The event is absolutely free.

Family Workshop at 240 E. 153rd St.

Oct. 29, 12-3 p.m.

Share an afternoon with your family and experiment with colors and textures. Led by Puerto Rican professional pour painter L.A. Pagan, learn the various pouring painting techniques creating abstract works through pour painting.  All materials including paint, tools, snacks and drinks, will be provided.

Dia de los Muertos Family Worshop at Wave Hill House

Oct. 29, 10-2 p.m.

Share the cultural tradition of Veracruz, Mexico. Enjoy live music from Son Pecadores as you create nicho boxes, a tradition to honor members past. Refreshments such as hibiscus iced tea will be provided and giant paper flowers will be crafted as souvenirs for this memorable family event.

This event is free to all people.

Weekly Art Classes at the Bronx River Art Center

Oct. 2 through Dec. 16

Feeling inspired? Register for the 10-week art class educating artists on topics such as mural and watercolor painting, ceramics, pottery, manga and cartoon illustrations, digital art and good old-fashioned drawing. Three-hour workshops are also available for those with a busy schedule.

Reverse a spot with these qualifications in mind: Children and Teen Classes ( 7-17): $95 for 10 sessions; Child & Parent Classes (6-12): $160 for 10 sessions; Young Adult and Adult Classes (18 and over): $120 for 10 sessions and Three-Hour Art Workshops: $12 per session. SNAP recipients can use SNAP10 to get an extra $10 off.

Bronx Poetry Night at 381 Canal Place

Not exactly a painter? Share your prowess in writing at the Bronx Poetry Night. Share a night of poetry, networking, drinks and food selling at the venue. This event is a great opportunity for poets who want to get their name and work out there, as the open mic will be heard over the LDM Radio stations podcast and streamed live on iHeart Radio. You can go to www.ldmradio.com for information on how to hear it.

Open mic list sign up begins at 5 p.m., space is limited. Entries are free, but donations of $10 are suggested, all profits of which are used for Bronx art programs.

Finale of the Bronx Night Market at Fordham Plaza

Oct. 28, 1-7 p.m.

Vamos, come out to Fordham Plaza and celebrate the borough’s rich culture, luscious food and music before the season ends.

Tickets start for free to $7 to join a $100 gift card raffle, and of course any donation amount to support the festival.

Gather your best witted friends and family to battle it out against other families in the Family Feud Board Game. Guess the most popular responses to a wide variety of questions.

Artist Performances

Arthur Avenue Comedy at Clinton Hall

Every Wednesday, 8:30 p.m.

Organized by well respected comedian Ben Asher, the Bronx welcomes amazing long sets of stand-up comedy with past performers coming from Colbert, SNL, the Daily Show, Letterman, the Tonight Show and Comedy Central. Clinton Hall provides an experience like no other: with talented comedians performing live and to a close audience to completely entertain and immerse almost anybody. Delicious craft food and drinks are of course available for purchase.

Tickets start at no cost to $17.47 (with a free drink) depending on how much you desire to support live stand-up. There is also the option to donate a custom amount to really support comedy nights.

Universoul Circus at Orchard Beach

Oct. 13 through Nov. 5

Make sure to grab a seat for “the coolest show on earth” and watch many diverse and unique acts being held in the picturesque beachline of Bronx.

Salsa Con Fuego presents a huge and raving party with X96.3 DJs, featuring great Dominican singer Wason Brazobán. Enjoy the contemporary shifts in Latin music.
