On Saturday, April 18, Councilman James Vacca and the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum celebrated the start of a $1.7 million restoration project for the museum. Also the museum hosted 200 volunteers in a clean-up day sponsored by NYCares and Con Edison that same day. Councilman Vacca allocated $375,000 toward this restoration project in 2008 and helped secured an additional $1 million from the Parks Department while Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. allotted the remaining funds. The project is slated for an October completion and will include masonry repointing, cleaning of the mortar between stones, renovations to the roof lining and gutters, and restoration of two iron rod balconies.
