Tuskegee Airman, 95, passes away

Julius Jeremiah Sidoine, a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen duriung World War II and active in his Soundview community, died April 20 at age 95.

Sidoine, known as J or JJ, was born and raised in Castries, St. Lucia before coming to the U.S. in 1933.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a sergeant with the 332nd Fighter Group of the Tuskegee Airman, stationed in Italy.

After the war, he was employed by the Post Office and the Department of the Army Pictorial Center, retiring in 1971.

Sidoine served as treasurer for the East Bronx Branch of the NAACP, and volunteered at the Bronxdale and James Monroe Senior centers.

He was married for 60 years to his lifelong sweetheart, Irene Evangeline Davis, who died in 2003, and is survived by children Barbara Elizabeth and Albert Davis.

Services were held for Sidoine April 27 at Granby’s Funeral Service.
