Empanology, Bronx Brewery offer food pop-up through holidays

Empanology, one of the Bronx’s buzziest food destinations, just got a new home. After 15 months in Mott Haven, Jason Alicea’s innovative, Puerto Rico-inspired food lab will pop-up at The Bronx Brewery (TheBronxBrewery.com) through the holidays and into mid-January.

The collaboration, which began on November 8, will see Empanology turn the brewery’s backyard into its

kitchen from Thursday through Sunday each week – with a weekly Taco Tuesday activation through December

17.

The pop-up has already plated more than 500 dishes since the collab began, from Empanology’s

boundary-pushing empanadas, new items like chino-Latino fried rice and arepas, to its new local-legend

Vegan Chopped Cheese, Alicea estimates.

“It’s a match made in ‘The South Bronx Heavens’,” Alicea said. “From the energy of the staff, the great

beer, fun events, the vibe and culture of The Bronx Brewery has always paired well with ours, as well as

serving as an inspiration for Empanology.

“Now, with the opportunity to have our food truck stationed for our residency, it allows us to showcase

a little more culinary flair by expanding our menu to more than empanadas, adding to the experiences

that BXB curates. It’s really a dream come true and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity and

partnership.”

Empanology’s biggest night so far came a week after opening, when Bronx comedians Desus Nice and

The Kid Mero came to the Brewery to launch Bodega Boys Beer, in partnership with Desus & Mero on

Showtime.

The brewery is located at 856 E. 136th Street in Port Morris.
