College Basketball Player of the Month

The Eastern College Athletic Conference announced on Thursday, March 7 that SUNY Cobleskill sophomore forward Antwan Claxton, of the borough, an alum of the Taft Educational Campus, was named ECAC Division III North Division Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Month for February 2019.

The Fighting Tiger forward averaged a double/double in points and rebounds for the month averaging 17.5 and 10.8 rebounds along with 2.7 assists per game in eight appearances shooting 50.5% from the field and 78.4% from the free throw line.

Claxton helped Cobleskill to their first NEAC Tournament appearance in five seasons while being named to the All-NEAC Third Team for the 2018-19 campaign.

He averaged during that season: 13.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game; shooting 46.8% from the field and 75.8% from the free throw line.

Fighting Tiger head coach Jake Scott said that Claxton, a sophomore forward, was a major part of the team’s success this year and in the future.

We are all very proud of Antwan. He played some of his best basketball at the end of the year when we needed him.

He’s a great player and teammate and I look forward to seeing continue to grow as a player.
