Barbara Regina Walters of the Fordham/Belmont community passed away on Thursday, June 28.

She was born in Manhattan on May 4, 1954 to James Alexander Walters and wife Geraldine Jones Walters.

She was an avid theatergoer, typically attending a performance every week. She also enjoyed international travel.

Education was very important to her and her family. She graduated from Boston College with a degree in Journalism. She then attended that University of Wisconsin at Madison where she earned an MBA in Finance.

She is survived by her brother James Walters and his wife Maureen Walters of Madera, CA; niece Tiffany Walters of Los Altos, CA; brother Charles Jones and wife Jean Jones of Deltona, Florida; brother Clarence Jones of Newark, Delaware; nephew Christopher and wife Theresa Jones of Elkton, Maryland; niece Cheryl Jones of Mesquite, Texas, niece Laura Brown of Baltimore, Maryland, nephew Nathan Jones of New York City and nephew Daniel Jones of Deltona, Florida.

Barbara was buried at Ferncliff Cemetery Association in Hartsdale, New York.

Employee of the Year

David Brown, a Kingsbridge resident who happens to be blind, is celebrating a decade employment anniversary working in the assembly department of Alphapointe.

Alphapointe, previously known as New York City Industries for the Blind, is a non profit agency that employs him and others who are visually impaired.

David does assembly and packing of various products in a manufacturing plant that makes office and janitorial supplies, as well as military apparel and emergency devices.

It also operates a call center. Nearly 200 employees work at the Brooklyn facility, with around 10 percent coming from the Bronx.

David was recently named as Direct Labor Blind Employee of the Year for Alphapointe’s New York facility.

He also recently attended the National Industries for the Blind conference in Washington, D.C., where he was honored along with employees of the year from other NIB member agencies around the country.
