The Bronx Council on the Arts hosted an opening reception for its newest exhibition ‘Noir: Defining the Melodrama’ on Wednesday, February 1 at the Longwood Art Gallery. The exhibit drew inspiration from the classic film genre and detective stories to address such ongoing social concerns as crime, gender roles, isolation and displacement. Featured artists include Laura Alvarez, Tyrone Brown-Osborne, Carey Clark, Alyssa Clear, Roberto de Jesus, Ray Felix, Elizabeth Glushko, Steve Pavlovsky, Daniel Hauben, Rasheed Humphrey, Patrick Jewell, Nikki Johnson, Jayson Keeling, Gabrielle Lopez, Jeanette may, Osjua Newton, Gelah Penn, Néstor Pérez-Molière, Jaime Permuth, Ethan Shoshan, Shira Toren, Nitza Tufiño, Deenesa Usher, Boo Lynn Walsh, Joe Wippler and Michael Young. ‘Noir: Defining the Melodrama’ will be on view through Thursday, May 4. The 450 Grand Concourse gallery is open every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 5 p.m.
