Obituary
Anthony Chirico passed away on Sunday, August 20 at the age of 58. Anthony is the brother of longtime east Bronx community activist and Waterbury-Lasalle Community Association board member Andrew Chirico. He lived Throggs Neck for many years, and also in his brother’s neighborhood.
He was born in the borough in January 1959.
Anthony survived three bouts with cancer since 1978, and a major heart surgery in 2001.
Anthony is survived by his mother Clara, his son Anthony V, his former wife Rosana, stepson Louis, his bother Andrew, and sisters Rita and Clareanne.
Anthony touched so many lives and he will be missed by all.
Yankee Youth Honorees
The New York Yankees recently honored youth from around the borough as part of its Yankee Youth Award scholarship program.

Borough teen gets prestigious award
Vera Zarubin, a Bronx High School of Science student who is from north Riverdale, earned a $10,000 award for a science project that converts waste into electricity.
The 17-year-old received the award from the Davidson Institute of Talent Development for her project, which is called: A Novel Methodology to Build Organic Thermoelectric Materials for Sustainable and Renewable Energy Applications. The project focuses
Clason Point Youth to NASA Spacecamp
Jahsiah Castillo recently attended the youth Space Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Marshall Space Flight Center’s Official Visitor Center.
The week long educational program focuses on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
The program also focuses on activities that foster a sense of leadership and teamwork while teaching problem solving.
Castillo participated in a simulated space mission, and his mother tells the Bronx Times that he one day hopes to become an astronaut.
He graduated in the spring from Mount St. Michael Academy Middle School and will be attending Fordham Preparatory School in the fall.
