The man wanted in connection with two assaults on seniors in Belmont has been arrested, according to the NYPD.
Daniel Deynes, 26, of Brooklyn was arrested Wednesday, September 21 after NYPD announced him as a person of interest wanted for questioning on Thursday, September 15, according to NYPD spokesperson.
Deynes was charged with second-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree robbery, second degree assault, four counts of burglary, fourth degree grand larceny, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, petite larceny, third degree assault, and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
He was held on $250,000 bail, according to reports.
On Sunday, August 14, a 90-year-old woman entered her home at Adams Place through the unlocked front door to find an intruder already inside her living room.
The assailant yanked a chain containing a crucifix off of her neck and her wedding ring off her finger and fled.
Then, on Sunday, August 21, an 82-year-old woman was followed into the entrance area of her building in the area of East 188th Sreet and Arthur Avenue.
The man threw her to the ground and kicked her several times before stealing a gold necklace with the phrase ‘#1 Grandma’ and several charms off her neck.
The Belmont assaults were just two of several that have occurred against seniors in the Bronx in recent weeks.
The trend continued on Sunday, September 25 when a 68-year-old man was struck in the head with a brick at around 3 a.m. on Hoe Avenue by an assailant who then stole the man’s phone and wallet.
The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital and was listed in stable condition.
