Groundbreaking held for Doe Fund’s Webster Green

A new affordable housing development will soon rise along Webster Avenue.

On Tuesday, July 19, the Doe Fund joined funding partners, city and state agency representatives and Magnusson Architecture and Planning for the groundbreaking ceremony of Webster Green, an affordable and supportive housing project.

The 82-unit development, a $30 million project which will be located on 3100 Webster Avenue, will include 41 supportive units consisting of a mix of studios and one-bedroom units as well as 41 affordable units consisting of a mix of one and two-bedroom units.

The targeted tenants are HIV and AIDS victims as well as homeless individuals and families.

The 76,000 square foot, eight-story building will also include on-site social services and feature an outdoor recreational area, residence lounges, a community room and laundry facilities.

Each unit comes with a storage space.

Rents will range from $852 to $1,096 per month including utilities.

According to a spokesperson for the Doe Fund, the development was coined ‘Webster Green’ because it’s LEED-certificatied The building is resource efficient by using less water and energy, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

The $30 million was funded by NYS Homes and Community Renewal, the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, NYS Department of Health, Citibank, Raymond James Tax Equity Group, the Corporation for Supportive Housing, the NYS Energy Research and Development Agency, among other funding partners and government agencies.

“The Doe Fund is proud to join our partners from the city, the state and the financial sector to make affordable housing a reality for New Yorkers in need,” said George McDonald, the Doe Fund’s founder and president.

Construction of Webster Green is expected to be completed in spring 2018.
