Birth Announcements

A nearby hospital sent in the following birth announcements:

Madicyn Ashley Veloz was born to parents Kathy Aponte and Marino Veloz of Pelham Bay on Monday, January 5.

Molly Grace Enright was born to parents Courtney Enright and Michael Enright of Silver Beach on Monday, Deecmber 29.

NYPD Promotion

Rob Barbarelli a Community Board 10 member and Throggs Neck Home Owners Association membership chairman congratulates his brother, Louis Barbarelli of the 48th Precinct, for his recent promotion to NYPD lieutenant. He was promoted in a ceremony at One Police Plaza on Friday, January 30.

Louis has been a member of the NYPD for over 11 years, and he is very committed to reducing crime and improving quality of life in the Bronx.

Rotary News

The Rotary Club of the Bronx held a sunset meeting on Friday, January 6 and club fellowship meeting on Tuesday, January 13.

Among the highlights of the January 6 meeting was club president Rick Sherman reading a letter of thanks to the Rotarians from Pira and Siraj Tesleran from Guyana thanking the club for funding ‘Gift of Life’ surgery for their son Nairaj.

Another Gift of Life child, Erda Aliu, got a send-off from club members after she and her family left the United States after a six-week stay, during which time she and her family were hosted by a Rotarian and as Erda received surgery and recovered..

The club is mourning the loss of two of its members.

Dr. Arthur Wolstein, a 30-year Rotarian who had a career as a podiatrist with a Parkchester practice, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18. He had just celebrated his 100th birthday in November 2014, and was always proud to say he was the oldest member of the Rotary club. He served as president of the club in 2003 and 2004.

Also passing away on Monday, January 16 was Rev. Bill Kalaidjian. He was 90, and was a member of the club for 55 years, serving as president in 1987 and 1988. He served as pastor of the Bedford Park Congregational Church for over 43 years, from 1953 to 1996. He was a New York City Police Department chaplain for over 41 years, from 1957 to 1998.

Parish Mission

St. Frances Catholic parish at 1703 Lurting Avenue in Morris Park wished to announce a Lenten Mission:

Reverend Pat Angelucci, SDB dynamic preacher of God’s word will be speaking at all the Masses on the weekend of Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 and continue through the week on the evenings of Monday, March 9, Tuesday, March10 and Wednesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in the church.
