For a quarter of a century Throggs Neck-based Bronx Physical Therapy has gone the extra mile to help Bronxites return to their healthy selves.

The local physical rehabilitation center celebrated its 25th anniversary on Friday, October 30 of providing patients with a myriad of services in a relaxing, friendly environment.

Located at 3611 E. Tremont Avenue, Bronx Physical Therapy treats all varieties of musculoskeletal issues such as orthopedic and sports injuries, auto and work-related injuries, neck and back pain, fractures, tendinitis, bursitis, sprains, strains, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, hand injuries and postsurgical problems among many others.

Open weekdays 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Bronx Physical Therapy utilizes a full array of modalities and procedures standard in the physical therapy industry such as moist heat, ice, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, iontophoresis, phonophoresis, mechanical traction, laser therapy, paraffin wax, whirlpool, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular reeducation, therapeutic activities, activities of daily living care, joint and soft tissue mobilization as well as myofascial release and massage.

Dr. Edward Blum, PT, DPT, BA, CWT, serves as the senior and managing partner.

He co-founded the center with his former business partner, Roy Goldberg, PT, at 3612 E. Tremont Avenue, in the Lauren Professional Building, before moving it in June 1994 to the present location.

“It was a positive change for our facility to move across the street because it expanded our space and helped us grew,” said Dr. Blum. “We’re able to accurately assess our patients’ needs and help them get better while preventing them from re-injuring themselves.”

“I am proud of our longevity and am grateful to the residential and medical community for their ongoing loyal support,” he added. “What keeps us great is our staff of knowledgeable and caring physical therapists, Rocco DeNobile, Jr., Issac Maldonado, Akim Jones and Stephanie Gannello; our PT aides, Sully Lopez, Samantha Herrmann and Alex Santana and our clerical staff headed by Michelle Gonzalez, the office coordinator; Joanne Gaughn; Lisa Rodriguez and Natalie Padilla.”

A Lehman College Class of 1976 graduate, Dr. Blum earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in physical education and furthered his education by obtaining his Certificate of Physical Therapy from Hunter College School of Health Sciences in 1980 and was presented the Award for Excellence in Physical Therapy upon his graduation from Hunter.

Dr. Blum pursued his Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the EIM Institute of Health Sciences in Louisville, Kentucky and holds a certification in weight training from IWA.

He cites helping people get better as his passion for his daily work as a physical therapist.

The facility contains several private treatment rooms and gym areas outfitted with exercise and therapeutic equipment.

According to Dr. Blum, Bronx Physical Therapy’s special services include the state-of-the-art Triton II Mechanical Traction machine loaded with the most up-to-date and effective computerized traction protocols capable of decompression therapy; Project Prevent, the balance training and fall prevention program featuring video capture of gait impairments, specialized individual programs and confidence building and their wellness program focusing on lifestyle coaching, weight and health management, supplementation suggestions and prescription exercise.

Bronx Physical Therapy serves as a training site for six physical therapy schools including Hunter College, New York Medical College, Touro College, Quinnipac University, SUNY Downstate Medical Center and College of Staten Island.
