The Bronx Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Business and Health Expo at the Mall at Bay Plaza on Tuesday, June 30.

The free event, taking place from 2 to 7 p.m., will feature networking opportunities, workshops and guest speakers.

While the annual event typically takes place in a catering hall, chamber president Lenny Caro said this year’s special because it’s taking place in the mall, which makes it easier for people to attend.

“We’re welcoming the public to be a part of the great things happening in the Bronx,” said Caro.

The chamber’s event is the first business expo to take place in the Mall at Bay Plaza, which was the first enclosed mall in New York City in 40 years when it opened to great fanfare last August.

In addition to highlighting the chamber’s members and vendors in attendance, the expo will recognize the borough’s economic development brought on by the new shopping center.

“We’re celebrating the 100 companies that have opened in the mall or in the Bronx this year,” said Caro.

Local elected officials will gather at 5 p.m. to commemorate the new additions.

The mall has brought upscale shopping to a borough where it was previously lacking, said Caro.

“It’s what our Bronx residents needed,” he said.

The expo is a way to celebrate that economic development as well as the numerous existing businesses in the Bronx, creating a space for the community to interact with the businesses.

“It will give great support and visibility to members of the chamber,” said Caro. “It’s another way to support local businesses.”

The event will include workshops about health and financial literacy. Visitors can learn about health care providers, financial services, and other Bronx businesses, and government agencies will also be on hand to answer questions about health benefits for seniors, as well as allow residents to learn if they are eligible for any unclaimed funds held by the state.

But ultimately, the expo is about providing an opportunity for local businesses to connect with the community.

“The chamber’s goal is to promote Bronx businesses and let the community know the many great things they are doing,” said Caro. “We’re showing off the pride of the Bronx.”
