Pelham Bay is home to a new eyewear shop.

Change iWear opened in March on Crosby Avenue, replacing and renovating an optical store that previously occupied the space.

Owner Albert Plishtiyev, 26, spent the first part of his career in the optical industry as a manager at highly trafficked locations of Cohen’s Fashion Optical.

He had been making sacrifices for the past few years to realize his dream of opening his own shop, and was excited when the opportunity presented itself.

“I’ve just always wanted to do this,” said Plishtiyev.

A licensed optician, Plishtiyev said he combines his knowledge of lenses and frame fitting with personal service to create a great experience for the customer.

“The customer service is another level.”

Plishtiyev said he’s incredibly passionate about what he does.

“I enjoy the feeling of helping people to see clearly and look good.”

Plishtiyev also enjoys giving back to his community, and so he will donate a portion of his profits to The Bubble Foundation, an organization that partners with schools to provide health and wellness education.

“I believe education is the most essential thing,” said Plishtiyev.

The businessman wants his store to do good and contribute to change in people’s lives.

“That’s what the name represents.”

He said he hopes to encourage other local businesses to give back as well.

Plishtiyev also believes that eyewear should be affordable, and is happy to create competition among optical shops in the neighborhood. He offers a wide range of styles and prices that start at $45.

“I offer affordable deals for everyone,” he said. “I feel everyone should be able to wear designer frames at reasonable prices.”

Plishtiyev is offering grand opening specials that include free single-vision lenses with any frames and free eye-exams with purchases. An ophthalmologist is in-house two days a week.

The store specializes in high definition and high-end progressive lenses, including Varilux lenses, said Plishtiyev, and offers transition lenses, anti-reflective lenses, ultra-thin and light lenses, as well as contact lenses.

Change iWear, at 1755 Crosby Ave., is open seven days a week.
