Mott Haven Artist Tour

Visit Bronx artists’ private studios, alternative art spaces, and also artists-in-residence at the Bronx Museum of the Arts during the 3rd Annual Mott Haven Open Artist Studio Tour on Saturday, May 2, from noon to 6 p.m. The tour is hosted by the Bronx Council on the Arts’ new Bronx Culture Trolley Saturdays, and all events and trolley rides are free and open to the public. Tour maps with participating artists, a list of events, and trolley route will be available soon online at www.bronxarts.org and at all locations on the tour. For more information call (718) 401-7866.

The self guided tour starts at noon at Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos Community College, 450 Grand Concourse, where the exhibitions Dream Sequence and Outsiders: Contemporary Works of Immigrant Artisans are on view. The trolley departs Longwood Art Gallery on the hour from noon to 5 p.m. and shuttles riders to other locations. Visitors are invited to hop on and off the trolley all afternoon.

The tour offers a rare opportunity to visit many artists’ private studios not ordinarily open to the public; and brings together shows at the Bruckner Gallery, LDR Studio Gallery, Sobro 721 Gallery, and studios at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, where international artists Dulce Gómez Cerezo (Venezuela); André Komatsu (Brazil); and Belinda (Billie) Zangewa (South Africa) are in residence (enter building through South Wing to visit studios; suggested donation to enter exhibitions in North Wing). Also on the tour is an installation curated by Alison Ward at the Synthetic Zero Art Space, (305 E. 140th St, #1A) which opens the evening 6 to 9 p.m.
