With the overcrowding and budget cuts facing Bronx school, resources are scarce, but Boost Mobile came to the rescue of P.S. 47, delivering supplies to meet the students’ needs.

On Wednesday, February 25, students gathered to welcome Boost Mobile representatives that selected P.S. 47, located 1794 E. 172nd Street, to receive over $ 5,000 worth of school supplies, including folders, notebooks, art supplies, paper, and writing utensils.

“P.S. 47 is going through some challenges, and we want to help fix some of the wrongs,” said Hector Galvan, public relations manager for Boost Mobile. “The students here are very artistic and talented. We understand it is overcrowded and that there are limited supplies, and we want to give the students resources.”

This school was selected not only because it suffers from overcrowding, with a student population close to 1,200, but also for the dedication of principal Thomas Guarnieri.

“A lot of things are going on in our school,” said assistant principal Richard Pecay, “and we want students to be proud everyday they walk in here.”

Guarnieri has been working hard to accommodate budgeting cuts and changes in the school, coming up with innovative solutions, such as creating classroom out of the gymnasium and utilizing outdoor space for the students’ physical activates.

The donation to P.S. 47 is part of the Boost Mobile ‘Unwronged’ campaign and community outreach program, that will be assisting selected institutions throughout New York, Boston and Chicago.

“We want to thank Boost Mobile for this generous donation, and all the help and effort they are putting into our school,” said student counsel member Crystal Gutierrev.

“This school is a Title I school, and we were in need of supplies,” said Karlene Gaymon, 5th grade teacher. “It’s good to know there are companies out there thinking of our schools because our children are the future, and this will significantly contribute toward their learning.”
