According to police, on Wednesday, December 5 at 6:08 p.m., 52nd Precinct police officers at W. 183rd Street and Loring Place observed a masked man running in their direction while carrying a backpack. As one of the police officers approached the suspect, Edwin Castillo-Concepcion, a 37-year-old Foxhurst resident, allegedly produced a firearm and shot at the police officer. Police chased after Castillo-Concepcion while exchanging gunfire. During the incident, a female bystander was struck by a single round in her stomach and a 12-year-old female was struck by bullet fragments in her leg. She was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. The 12-year-old victim was transported to Bronx Lebanon Hospital in stable condition. Castillo-Concepcion was shot once in his neck and once in the foot, and was arrested. A firearm was recovered at the scene, as he was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts criminal possession of a weapon. The two police officers were unharmed, but taken to Jacobi Hospital for observation. Police reviewed surveillance footage showing the suspect allegedly committing a drug rip-off in the lobby of 98 W. 183rd Street. The footage showed the suspect firing his gun at the individuals who had the narcotics. A backpack containing what appeared to be a brick of narcotics was recovered when Castillo-Concepcion was arrested at 152 E. Fordham Road.
