To the Editor,
In a recent letter to the editor, Michael Wilbekin asked why the NYPD doesn’t use drones at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. For more than 260 years the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade has marched up Fifth Avenue. Best of my recollection, no one has ever been shot at that parade. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the violence which takes place at the West Indian Day Parade or J’Ouvert.
Yes, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is predominantly Caucasian because Ireland and the Irish are predominately Caucasian. It’s no different than the West Indies and West Indians not being predominately Caucasian.
I also do not know why Mr. Wilbekin felt the need to include Trump, the GOP and “MAGA extremists” in his letter. None of that plays a role in any St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
