To the Editor,

The 39th annual Veterans Parade in Throggs Neck will be conducted on Sunday, Nov. 12. The parade steps off at noon from Lafayette and Tremont avenues and marches to the Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park for a ceremony.  The year 2023 is significant as it represents the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Peace Accords, the end of combat operations in Vietnam and the withdrawal of U.S. forces. It’s time we recognize and pay tribute to veterans of the Vietnam War era for their service and sacrifice on behalf of our great nation!

This year’s grand marshals served in Vietnam. They are Specialist 4 Francis X. Donnelly, wireman, U.S. Army; Cpl. Robert Feliciano Jr., crash fire rescue crewman, U.S. Marine Corps and Lance Cpl. Patrick Devine, infantry, U.S. Marine Corps. Additionally, the ceremony will also recognize a Vietnam-era platoon consisting of servicemen and women representing all branches of the military who served honorably during the Vietnam War era, defined as Nov. 1, 1955 – May 15, 1975, regardless of their geographic assignment.

All are encouraged to attend and wave your flag along the parade route and join the ceremony at the historic Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park.

Ronald Watson Jr.
