More than 150 children received free eye exams and prescription glasses last month at a three-day clinic organized by LensCrafters and the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, held at the Rev. T Wendell Foster Recreation Center in the Bronx.

The clinic, held from Sept. 25-27 in partnership with The Fresh Air Fund’s Camp Junior, aimed to address the issue of undiagnosed vision problems, which affect about one in four students in the U.S. For many children, access to eye care is limited, and untreated vision issues can hinder academic success and daily activities.

During the event, children received comprehensive eye exams, and those in need of corrective eyewear were able to get prescription glasses on-site, made possible by the Foundation’s mobile manufacturing capabilities.

“At LensCrafters, we see it as a privilege and a responsibility to engage our doctors and team members in elevating the cause of vision and the impactful work of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation,” said Alfonso Cerullo, President of LensCrafters. “Through the Foundation, we’re able to extend vision care to those who need it most in the communities we serve and better ensure everyone can see more and be more.”

The clinic is part of LensCrafters’ ongoing commitment to community service. Over the last decade, the optical retailer has raised over $25 million for the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation through customer donations, helping to fund vision care programs across North America.

“LensCrafters continues to be a deeply dedicated partner that truly champions the work we do at the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation,” said Becky Palm, Executive Director of the North American affiliate of the Foundation. “Thanks to the continued passion of LensCrafters’ leadership, doctors, and team members, we’re able to fund and staff critical programs that empower the patients we serve through vision care access.”

The OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation is a global vision care nonprofit focused on eliminating uncorrected poor vision, while LensCrafters operates more than 1,000 stores in North America, providing eyewear and optometric services.
