Standing out amongst the rest for the month of May, the Cop of the Month Award was presented to Police Officer Trina Heffner.

The award, sponsored by Senator Jeff Klein, was given to Heffner at the Tuesday, May 26 49th Precinct Community Council meeting for her contribution to the Van Nest community.

A foot post in the Van Nest region, Heffner stopped an individual sighted in possession of a knife.

When searched the criminal was found to have stolen property on his person, including a credit card and metro card.

Using the evidence the accused was linked to approximately three burglaries, of a pattern of 12 burglaries, which had occurred recently in the area.

“It was a great job, going above and beyond,” said Captain Greeley of the 49th Precinct.

“It helped us out with the burglaries and a lot of resident in that area feel much safer now that this guy is behind bars.”
