Intoxicated Driver Injures ATV Operator

An intoxicated man was arrested after seriously injuring an ATV operator. Police from the 45th Precinct responded to a motor vehicle collision on Monday, August 20 at 8:38 p.m. on the Throgs Neck Expressway service road. Upon arrival, first responders discovered that Randy Sookoo, 47, a resident of 270 Longstreet Avenue, was traveling southbound on the Throgs Neck Expressway service road in his Jeep Grand Cherokee and attempted to make a left onto Wissman Avenue. At this same time, a 23-year-old Yamaha 4-wheeler ATV operator was traveling northbound onto Throgs Neck Expressway service road. Sookoo’s Jeep allegedly turned into the path of the ATV and was struck on its front bumper. The Jeep continued eastbound on Wissman Avenue before coming to a complete stop. The ATV’s operator sustained a serious head injury and was rushed to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition. Sookoo was taken to the same hospital by EMS in stable condition. He was arrested for DWI on the scene by the 45th Precinct prior to being taken to the hospital. Sookoo was charged with DWI, Driving While Ability Impaired and Refusal to Take a Breath Test.
