Freight Train Derailment Impacts Amtrak Service

Amtrak service was disrupted Wednesday morning when a CSX freight train derailed in Hunts Point.

The derailment occurred on Wednesday, October 5 at 9:15 a.m. in the Oak Point Rail Yard near Bruckner Boulevard and Longwood Avenue.

Eight empty freight cars were derailed and one of the overturned cars covered the tracks resulting in service delays.

No injuries were reported and no hazardous materials were spilt in the incident.

Police said the freight cars were part of a 99-car train traveling from Fresh Pond, Queens.

Northeast Regional and Acela Express service between New York and New Rochelle was suspended until 12:30 p.m. while an investigation was conducted.
