Checking in on those you care about in quarantine…now that’s whassup!

Recently retired NBA star Dwyane Wade and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union teamed up with Budweiser to reboot its iconic and goofy “whassup” commercial of the late 1990s; this time with a much more impactful message.

This one emphasizes the importance of virtually checking in on loved ones that you’re isolated from.

Also featuring Wade’s former Miami Heat teammate Chris Bosh, two time WNBA MVP of the LA Sparks Candace Parker, and DJ D-Nice spinning one of his newly popular “Club Quarantine” sets, this is the start of a larger “check-in” that the beer company is cracking open.

In addition to D Wade returning with other athletes for another check-in later this month, Budweiser will give you the chance to say “whassup” to a celebrity each Thursday at 6 p.m. via Instagram Live starting with Wade on April 30.

“We both remembered the original ‘whassup’ ads and love the idea of bringing them back as a genuine PSA to connect with each other,” Wade said in regards to both himself and Union.

If you haven’t seen that original add from 1999, allow us to introduce you to it:

Budweiser also partnered with The Salvation Army as part of the PSA campaign, which recently launched an emotional support hotline amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

That line is open from 9 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. EST at 1-844-458-HOPE (4673).

Callers are encouraged to leave a message if they call after hours.
