Calvary plans free foot screening

Calvary plans free foot screening

Following their successful pilot from last year, Calvary Hospital is again planning to offer free monthly foot screenings for adult diabetics, on the following Fridays, all from 9 am to noon: July 10, August 28, and September 25. The screenings will take place at Calvary Hospital’s Center for Curative and Palliative Wound Care located at 1740 Eastchester Road. For directions, go to www.calvaryhospital.org.

Participants will receive a thorough individual screening and assessment of their feet by expert medical professionals. Bilingual staff, fluent in Spanish and English, will be available at every screening. There is no charge for the screenings but RSVPs are required. To register, people should call (718) 576-2714 to schedule the date of their choice.

Diabetes affects a significant number of New Yorkers. The Hispanic, African American and West Indian communities in the Bronx are particularly hard hit with the many consequences of diabetes. Calvary’s goal with these screenings is to help adult diabetics identify and prevent serious foot-related problems before they occur. The hospital’s pilot last year helped dozens of adult diabetics from all over the metropolitan area. The foot screenings are supported by a grant from Stratford and Kathleen Wallace and Calvary’s Center for Curative and Palliative Wound Care.
