Friday, Oct. 13

Screening of “Going To Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project”: 6:30 p.m. at the Bronx Documentary Center, BDC Annex 364 E. 151st St.

For the annual BDC Women’s Film Series, the Bronx Documentary Center will be screening the experiences of poet Nikki Giovanni, that molded her literary activism during the Civil Rights Movement to the contemporary Black Lives Matter movement. After the screening, the producers of the film will open the floor to audience for questions. No fees or RSVPs are required, but $10 donations are encouraged.

Saturday, Oct. 14

Bronx Women in Documentary Film Panel Talk: 4 p.m. at the Bronx Documentary Center, BDC Annex 364 E. 151st St. 

The Bronx Documentary Center will be continuing its BDC Women’s Film Series with an open panel of Bronx’s own women in film, including filmmakers Pam Sporn and Stefani Saintonge, sound recordist Veralucia Quispe Chirinos, and director Chanelle Aponte Pearson. No fees or RSVPs are required, but $10 donations are encouraged. Find out more here.

Bronx Fashion Week: 5 p.m. at the Bronx Library Center, 310 E. Kingsbridge Road

To celebrate Latinx heritage, the Bronx Library Center will be hosting a fashion show. RSVP here to celebrate the nuances of Latinx culture and design.

Sunday, Oct. 15

Screening of “La Madrina: The Savage Life of Lorine Padilla”: 4 p.m. at the Bronx Documentary Center, BDC Annex 364 E. 151st St. 

The Bronx Documentary Center will be ending its annual BDC Women’s Film Series with the screening of the life of the ultimate South Bronx matriarch and former gang member of the Savage Skulls. Go converse with Padilla, the matriarch herself, after the screening. No fees or RSVPs are required, but $10 donations are encouraged.

Latin Jazz Brunch: 12 p.m. at the Castle Hill YMCA, 2 Castle Hill Ave. 

The Castle Hill YMCA will be hosting a jazzing brunch with vibrant salsa dancing. The event features artists Carlos Jimenez and Mambo Quintet as authentic performers. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased ahead of time. Contact aedwards@ymcanyc.org for inquiries.
