This school year, the Bronx Women’s Bar Association (BWBA) launched its first ever Back-to-School Giveaway with the theme of “equipping our young women on their educational journey.” The supplies drive was a grand success as many in the legal community donated for this good cause.

The BWBA partnered with Founding Principal Dr. Arnette Crocker and the Women’s Academy of Excellence for the school supplies drive. The Academy was chosen because of its mission:
“to create a community of lifelong learners and leaders where students’ intellectual curiosity and creativity is nurtured and their development needs as teenagers are met to their individual satisfaction.”

On Sept. 9, the Women’s Academy of Excellence held its Mother-Daughter Breakfast and 9th Grade Welcome. It was a wonderful celebration where President Savina P. Playter and Vice President Karen Del Vecchio spoke to young women about exploring a wide range of classes, embracing their authentic selves and gaining confidence by pushing themselves outside of their comfort zone.

During the program, attorneys, Playter and Del Vecchio presented 50 colorful drawstring backpacks with folders, notebooks, post-its, pencils, pens, erasers, scissors, glue sticks, highlighters and sharpeners to each of the ninth grade young women.
