The NYPD has arrested a Bronx woman for attempting to kidnap a toddler in the apartment building she lived earlier this week.
Darlyn Thomas, 32, a resident of 988 East 180th St., was charged with second-degree attempted kidnapping after allegedly following a 23-year-old woman and her 2-year-old child into the laundry room of the building she lived on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
According to police, Thomas confronted the mother, grabbing her by the arm and demanding that she hand over her child. However, the mother was able to break free, and both she and her child safely escaped the encounter without injury.
Thomas allegedly fled the scene by taking an elevator to the 12th floor of the building, evading immediate capture. The incident, which occurred around 6:50 p.m. that day, triggered an investigation.
The department sought the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect, sharing her description through various media outlets, including the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers program. After releasing information and images of the suspect, investigators with the NYPD 48th Precinct were able to locate and arrest Thomas.
Thomas was taken into custody on Thursday, Oct. 17.
