A Bronx man has been indicted on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and other offenses after allegedly driving drunk, running a red light, and causing a fatal crash that killed a young woman and severely injured her boyfriend, an off-duty NYPD officer.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced the indictment of Dimas Cuadrado, 43, of Castle Hill Avenue, on Dec. 16.

“The defendant was allegedly intoxicated while he sped through a red light and killed a young woman and injured another person,” Clark said. “This tragedy could have been avoided had the driver simply called a cab or used mass transit. Now he has allegedly destroyed lives, including his own.”

Cuadrado was arraigned before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Brenda Rivera on charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, second-degree manslaughter, aggravated vehicular assault, and reckless driving. Bail was set at $50,000 cash or $350,000 bond, with the option for a partially secured bond. Cuadrado is due back in court on March 6.

The crash occurred on Nov. 16 at approximately 12:49 a.m. According to the investigation, Cuadrado was allegedly speeding northbound on Castle Hill Avenue in a 2011 Lincoln sedan when he ran a red light and struck a 2017 Infiniti sedan.

The Infiniti was driven by Wilson Torres, 24, an off-duty NYPD officer, with his girlfriend, 27-year-old Dorilys Ramos, as a passenger. Ramos was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where she was pronounced dead. Torres sustained a broken arm, broken ribs, and a collapsed lung and required a breathing tube during treatment.

Authorities stated that Cuadrado was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the crash, registering a .128 blood alcohol concentration on an Intoxilyzer.

“This senseless tragedy underscores the grave consequences of driving under the influence,” Clark said.
