On Thursday, February 11, 100 seniors at Jewish Home Lifecare’s Kittay House celebrated Black History Month. The event, which was attended by Councilman Fernando Cabrera, who funded part of the event, included the seniors performing spirituals and reciting poetry of Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou. Other songs that were performed by the seniors included ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘Take My Hand’ and ‘Precious Lord’, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s favorite song that was sung by legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson at his funeral.
